Instructional and Student Support Systems

Implementing DE programs covers both course development and course delivery. There are different approaches to developing course materials depending on the institution (Care and Scanlan 2001). In addition to developing learning materials, DE institutions need to set up learner support systems (Tait 2000), including tutorial support (Segoe 2014), to address the special needs of distance learners.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

1.  Compare and contrast the different models in course development

2.  Describe the support systems in developing and delivering DE programs and discuss their importance

WEBPAGE CONTENTS:

II. Different models in course development
III. Student support system

DISCUSSION POINTS:

1. Among the 7 models in course development I presented, what is the best model you would like to implement for your current or future DE program? Justify your answer.

2. Describe how crucial is student support services in the implementation of DE programs.
